Soundtrack for The Bell Jar

Soundtrack for The Bell Jar

1. "Happy Little Pill" by Troye Sivan. The song talks about using drugs as an escape, but you aren't exactly "happy" from the drugs. In the book, Esther uses sleeping pills (suicide) to get away from everything but it resulted with her in a worser shape than before.

2. "Demons" by Imagine Dragons. This song is about losing your sanity/keeping secrets on the inside, but not letting it show on the outside. Esther has been through suicide attempts and poisoning, but you wouldn't know that just from looking at her.

3. "How to Save a Life" by The Fray. This song is about saving a friend/someone from suicide. In the book. Esther was unable to prevent Joan from hanging herself even though there wasn't much of a warning.

4. "Human" by Christina Perri. This song means we're all human because we make mistakes and we're not perfect. So, Esther made a few mistakes just like everyone else, which led her to end up where she was.

5. "Mr. Know It All" by Kelly Clarkson. This song is about how a guy thinks that he knows everything about a girl, but he doesn't. Likewise, Buddy Willard thinks that he knows Esther well but he doesn't even understand Esther's ambition to write poetry. Also, Esther always thought he was pure but it turns out he's the opposite. She's not used to this fact and thinks he's a hypocrite.

6. "Chandelier" by Sia. This song talks about suicide ("I'm just holding on for tonight"). Esther had attempted suicide more than once. Also, the song talks about alcohol which relates to the beginning of the book with her drinking vodka at a bar with Doreen.
