I thought that this story was funny as well as interesting, I liked the fact that it was a play off of a better known story and it gave a new perspective to the ‘personalities’ of the hare and the tortoise, as well as what ‘really happened’ during the first race. I thought it was interesting hearing about the first race from the hare’s point of view. I also thought it was funny how ‘human-like’ aspects were brought into the story, such as the spokesperson for the tortoise.
I also thought that the reader, B.J. Novak, did a good job at giving different tones to the tortoise and the hare’s voices. You could tell that the hare was determined and was ‘haunted’ by the past race by the way he talked about it. When the tortoise was talking, Novak made the tortoise seem smug about wining the first race and he taunted the hare about it too. Novak also used the speed at which he said things to give emphasis to certain lines, and to make it stand out to the listener.
