Does the story/selection appeal to you? Why or why not?

What does the reader do to bring the story to life, create a voice?

  1. I thought this story was humorous and intriguing, though a little disjointed and sporadic. The story wasn't really a story, it was a collection of "big moments in small lives." The podcast was a series of little two line stories, and felt more like a stand up comedian's act than an actual story. It seemed like a series of newspaper articles, police reports, and inner-circle drama all mushed together. Although I did find some of these little things funny, like how a woman really wanted a baby, so she went to the hospital and took one, or a much smaller crime of falling down on your way to pick a date up. Then there was also ironic ones line the Titanic crashed and all the passengers safely made it off the ship.

The way it was read Jeffrey Wright and Blythe Danner would alternate small story lines, as if telling each other what was happening in the world. I liked the way each person read, in a matter-of-fact and direct kind of way. They also read with appropriate voices and pauses, they weren't rushing and seemed to really be intrigued by what they were saying.
